Local Hero Elvis Shrimply Triumphs at the Annual Fishstick Contest!

Thalasia, our beloved coastal haven, is thriving with excitement as the official results are in: Elvis Shrimply has claimed the title of Fishstick Champion at this year's Seasonal Fishing Festival!

n an impressive display of both speed and endurance, Elvis guzzled down an astonishing 237 fishsticks in just under 10 minutes, breaking last year’s record by a whopping 42 fishsticks! Fans from all over the region gathered at the harbor square, with many cheering him on, waving signs, and chanting, "Go, Elvis, go!" as he crunched through each crispy bite.

A fierce competition

The fishstick-eating contest, a long-standing tradition at Thalasia’s Seasonal Fishing Festival, featured some of the best appetites in town. Competitors were judged not only on the number of fishsticks consumed but also on their ability to maintain composure under the watchful eyes of the crowd.

“Elvis showed an incredible balance of speed and skill,” said Chief Judge Coraline Waverly. “Every bite was a step closer to victory, and he gave it his all!”

Who is Elvis Shrimpley?

For those unfamiliar with our new champion, Elvis Shrimply is a lifelong Thalasan with a love for all things seafood. Known for his humor, dedication to community events, and remarkable capacity for seafood delights, he has become a local favorite at festivals. When asked what inspired him, Elvis said, “Even though I hate fishsticks, I love competitions and I love to win things. So that didn’t stop me. If I want to win, I am going to!”.

The prizes

As the grand prize winner, Elvis received a Golden Fish Fork trophy and in addition, he’s been invited to be the honorary starter for next year’s festival!

A festival to remember

This year’s Seasonal Fishing Festival will go down as one for the books. In addition to the nail-biting contest, festivalgoers enjoyed local music, a seafood cooking competition, and a sunset boat parade.
